Sleep, then day 3!
Blogging from the iPhone. All goes well. On to Florida! Pics maybe tonight. My iPod is a portable 90s middle school dance. Awesome. …I think.
Well, it’s almost 5AM in London and I’m still up after winding down from “watching” the UT game. Texas shoulda ran the clock down more, but I guess hindsight’s 20/20. I wasn’t able to find any streams of the game, so Andrew kindly rigged up a microphone and we Skyped it up so I could get audio of the game. It actually worked out pretty well, I think.
I went to the Borough Market “today” with some BVers which was pretty cool. I wish my appetite was a bit more alive but it never really is in the “morning.” It was around 1PM, but that’s 8AM in Texas and I don’t think my body’s quite adjusted yet especially since I woke up at 11. =) Regardless, had some tasty bits of food and the atmosphere there was pretty nifty.
I then went to see Quantum of Solace but was sorely disappointed. The action was mediocre at best, there were quite a few slow points in the movie where I found myself just day dreaming about other stuff, the acting was not so hot (particularly from the new comers), and there weren’t even any amusing one-liners (at least none that I found memorable enough). By this point, I hope I’ve talked it down enough for you people who are going to see it just because it’s a Bond movie to get at least some enjoyment out of it, but to me it seemed like a waste of time. I’m honestly very surprised it has a 76% on Rotten Tomatoes UK (not sure if that’s any different than US, but it won’t not redirect me).
I slept in pretty late today because I was afraid I was coming down with something (I don’t think I am anymore). After I woke up, I browsed around a bit and started to look at maps to figure out where I wanted to go. My battery died soon after that, so I went to plug in to the US->UK power adapter Tiff had, but discovered that it didn’t allow me to plug in my MBP power adapter since it didn’t have a hole for the grounding prong.
So I put on my jacket and venture out into London for the first time without Tiff (not counting my trip to the office from the airport) in search of either an Apple store or some store I could find a generic power adapter that allows for a grounding prong.
Well, after a while of wandering aimlessly I manage to find a store that has one and buy it. I then spend another hour or so trying to find my way back to Tiff’s place because I made note of very poor landmarks. The one that managed to get my back successfully was some upper class lingerie shop…
I hop on the sub, get some food, and arrive at my one major goal for the day (not my photo):
Ahhh… yessss… all is good.
In London, restrooms/bathrooms are called toilets so you ask “where is the toilet?”
Also, elevators are called lifts. I know this because there is a little screen in front of them that has little flags for you to press to change languages. There’s a British flag and an American one and the only difference is “Lift” becomes “Elevator.”
And… it gets dark pretty early… like 5PM.
I bought a toothbrush for Oriana because she just learned how to brush her own teeth and will be so happy to have a new one to use. She can’t read yet, so don’t tell her and spoil the surprise!
I’m off to London!
Oh and it’s raining.
I still don’t really “get” this whole Twitter thing, but apparently some people like to use it. It seems like a somewhat pointless merging of SMS, blogging, emails, and IMs and I have to confess that I just don’t understand. I can’t say I particularly care though. =)
Anyways, that said, Andrew and I have decided to make use of Twitter by documenting the horrible movies that we watch (mostly together) at Rockwood. Feast your eyes upon the ROCKWOOD TWITTER!
Congratulations, Chad and Nancy!
I wish I had had some prep time before having to give my “toast” (I didn’t even have a drink on me… =). There’s a few things I would have liked to have said, that I just didn’t think about having been thrown on the spot (coughthanksgracecough). Sooooo… I guess I’ll make a blog entry with some of it instead even though no one reads this thing anyways. =)
When Nancy and Chad first started dating, Chad would often talk about her. I remember a car ride when Chad would look at a picture of Nancy and ask me “how did this happen? how did a beautiful girl like Nancy decide to like me?” I think we all probably wondered the same. =)
Probably a few months into their relationship, Chad and I were talking through Jester and he was talking about dating Nancy. He told me that if it didn’t work out with Nancy, that he wasn’t going to date anyone else and that Nancy would be his last. I know that Chad’s not the type of guy to make those type of statements/commitments without serious thought, so I had no doubt in my mind that he really meant it. He had told Nancy this too, and she probably thought he was crazy, but I think this was Chad’s way of recognizing that he had something special with Nancy and that he wasn’t going to find anyone else like her. That was seven or so years ago and I think Chad already knew that he loved Nancy.
There are a lot of couples out there that make you question how long they’ll last and/or make you really surprised when they announce a wedding. With Chad and Nancy, I think we all were just wondering when it would happen and it would have been weird if they didn’t end up married (well, at least that was the case with me =). I think that has to do with a lot of “small” things like the above and Nancy’s incredible knack to put up with Chad’s shenanigans. =) There’s no doubt that that guy can make your blood boil sometimes =), but yet Nancy’s stuck with him all these years. I remember times talking to Nancy when she said she just couldn’t imagine being with anyone else.
I really did mean it when I said that Chad and Nancy are good for each other. They challenge and help each other grow and there’s no question that they love each other. Congrats, friends. =)
Now that I’m done with the sap, here’re a few photos and the rest are on my flickr, as usual. I’m not sure if they’re up yet, but I’m sure Kat, Sam, and Van will have excellent photos as well (and hopefully some during the ceremony ;). Oh yes… and my sisters too. =) Enjoy!
…and the rest are here.
I cannot believe it actually happened. Every since the FIRST Guitar Hero came out, I have wanted this to happen. I even made a post on the official forums (which I can no longer find…) adding this to the song request thread. Mark and I even contemplated writing our own PC version so we could make this happen (our PS2 to USB controller converter didn’t work which foiled our plans… haha).
Anyways, it is now done. I can die in peace. ;)
